DEAD OR ALIVE?

When you get to the gym how does your workout usually unfold? Is your windshield foggy or clear? Do you see the set in front of you or are you distracted by the voices behind you?

When you clutch the loaded barbell do you feel ready or reluctant?  Does one rep fuse smoothly with the next or do they seem out of step? Do you slow down through the sticking point or plough through it like a tank?

When you walk away from your last set are your muscles flat or are they pumped to the bursting point? When you get onto the treadmill are you ready for a rest or to rock?

Think back to your last workout. Hear the sounds. See the sights. Recreate the entire experience. Now ask yourself, did you feel dead or alive?

BEVERLY’S PROPOSAL

As a category, “PRE-Training” formulas have cluttered store shelves for years. This has given Beverly a superb vantage point from which to observe what appeals to consumers and what doesn’t. Armed with these observations we established the goal of developing a TRAINING formula capable of:

1.       Injecting life into the front AND back half of any workout without interruption. No more “rocking out” for the first 30 minutes of your workout only to find yourself “clocking out” during the second half. From beginning to end our training formula would need to fade out the distractions in the background, focus on the mission in the foreground, energize the blood and dial up the intensity.

2.       Turning you into a raging bull in the weight room AND a tireless gazelle during cardio. Resistance (weight-lifting) exercise and cardio place different metabolic demands on your body. Our formula would need to address them all.

Simply stated, whether you were a bodybuilder, a powerlifter, or any other type of athlete, our new formula would need to help you unfold 90 seconds of physique-transforming fury out of every 60 seconds of training. This was our proposal. Now we have the product.

NEW UP-LIFTTM:

HYBRID TRAINING FORMULA

As an athlete your workout is hands down the most powerful stimulant in your possession. And who’s behind the wheel of every workout? You are. From the moment you exert your first Newton-meter of muscular force a plethora of metabolic pathways are stimulated in seamless synchrony. Beverly’s new hybrid training formula UP-LIFT™ is designed to feed these metabolic pathways for your entire training ride under any and all conditions with a motley crew of nutritional substrates and co-factors. The training remains entirely in your hands, as it only can be. What UP-LIFT™ does is help you steer and accelerate through even the most treacherous training turns like a polished professional.

UNIQUE HYBRID FUNCTIONALITY

An important and distinguishing design feature of UP-LIFT™ is its unique hybrid functionality:

·         Not just for “pre-training”: To limit yourself to pre-training ingestion is to limit your performance. UP-LIFT™ is intended for ingestion immediately prior to (pre-training) AND during exercise. It is the informed opinion of our R&D scientists that the best way to produce “sustained action” is to take another serving when you need it. The flexibility to do this was built into the UP-LIFT™ formula from the very first ingredient.

·         For cardio AND weights: As a hybrid training formula, UP-LIFT™ is designed to sustain high-intensity training performance during both resistance AND cardio exercise. As above, this flexibility was built into the formula from the beginning, and in response to reports from users of existing products. With its unique hybrid functionality, UP-LIFT™ is ideal for athletes who do their cardio before or after weights, or during a separate workout altogether.

·         Totally Stimulant-Free: “What goes up must come down.” It never fails. Stimulants create the illusion of above-average energy acutely. A little while later, however, you feel like you have below-average energy. This may explain why some stimulant-containing products hit you all at once at the front end of your workout, only to leave you sitting on the curb in the final half. The UP-LIFT™ training formula is totally free of caffeine and other stimulants. That means no more sitting on the curb.

·         Glucose Economy™ “Friendly”: Glucose is your body’s most important fuel. If your body’s supply of glucose (termed the “glucose economy”) falls, so too will your performance. Beverly’s lab added gluconeogenic amino acids to UP-LIFT™ to support your glucose economy. These amino acids are capable of supporting blood glucose levels and performance throughout your workout without negatively affecting insulin levels or fat-burning. In fact, gluconeogenesis supports the burning of fat and thermogenesis.

UNDER THE “HOOD” OF UP-LIFT™

NO Matrix:

Athletes have come to view nitric oxide (NO) as the “gatekeeper” to the pump. But NO is about more than this. In addition to regulating vasodilation, it has been found to affect muscle contraction, oxygen consumption, tolerance to pain, appetite, inflammation and protein synthesis, among other activities. We tried to express these regulatory properties in the most explosively dramatic possible terms with the UP-LIFT™ NO Matrix. It is intended to support NO action in working muscle tissue whether you’re clutching a 300-pound barbell or sprinting up stairs.

AKG (L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate): Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) is the enzyme responsible for synthesizing NO. The amino acid L-arginine is a direct substrate for NOS which is why it is included in the UP-LIFT™ formula. The addition of alpha-ketoglutarate is thought to modify L-arginine metabolism so as to further boost NO production and possibly even nitrogen retention. It may come as no surprise, then, that AKG supplementation was recently found to improve bench press performance (Campbell et al., 2008).

L-Citrulline: NOS converts L-arginine into NO, generating L-citrulline as a by-product. L-citrulline can be converted into L-arginine to produce more NO. We’ve stacked L-citrulline with AKG in the UP-LIFT™ NO Matrix to enhance L-arginine availability and further boost NO action (Hyashi et al., 2005). L-Citrulline is efficiently retained in humans when given orally and may promote a positive nitrogen balance --always a good thing if you’re trying to build muscle. [EDITOR’S NOTE: L-glutamine, which is found in Beverly’s Glutamine Select + BCAA, increases L-citrulline levels in humans (Rouge et al., 2007).]

Standardized American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius): American Ginseng is included in UP-LIFT™ to support the activity of NOS and for its frequently investigated adaptogenic properties.

Vitamin C: Vitamin C protects NO from destruction by free radicals thereby extending its half-life (Hyashi et al., 2005). We included it in the UP-LIFT™ NO Matrix because we want your training pumps and vascularity to last as long as possible.

Beta-alanine, Histidine and Betaine: These three ingredients were added to the UP-LIFT™ NO Matrix to support neuromuscular performance. Building serious muscle mass requires doing lots of sets and reps without resting too long. This means you’ll be producing a lot of lactic acid. Carnosine is one of several compounds your muscles use to buffer acid. It is made from beta-alanine and histidine. The supply of beta-alanine is rate-limiting: As the supply falls, so too does the rate of carnosine synthesis. Beta-alanine supplementation has been found to increase muscle carnosine levels by as much as 80% in 10 weeks (Hill et al. 2007). By supporting the acid-buffering capacity of muscle tissue, beta-alanine and histidine can allow you to lift a given weight for more reps, for example. A recent study showed a 15% increase in bench press power in subjects using beta-alanine as compared to those who took a placebo. Another study found an increase in the number of repetitions performed (muscular endurance) in the squat exercise. Betaine has recently been investigated for its effects on exercise performance. Evidence suggests that it may increase plasma volume (Armstrong et al. 2008).

Niacin:
Niacin is included in UP-LIFT™ to support NO-dependent vasodilation such as occurs under the skin (subcutaneously). The dilation of subcutaneous blood vessels helps the body release the heat that it generates (thermogenesis), particularly during exercise.

Mental Acuity/Energy Matrix:

Falling blood glucose levels, fatigue, failure, a loud gym member, bad music –these and other distractions can be the “barbaric invaders” of any workout. The UP-LIFT™ Mental Acuity/Energy Matrix keeps them at bay by sharpening your awareness and giving you bullet-proof energy and enthusiasm. Finally you can get in the zone quickly during your workouts and remain there until the very end, whether you’re pumping iron or pounding the treadmill.

L-Alanine, Glycine: In addition to supporting protein synthesis, L-alanine and glycine support your glucose economy. This is because they can be converted into glucose (blood sugar), a process known as gluconeogenesis. Gluconeogenesis consumes ATP which is supplied by the burning of fat. Gluconeogenesis also releases heat (thermogenesis). Thus, gluconeogenesis, the burning of fat and thermogenesis go hand in hand. This is good news for any athlete who is concerned about getting lean.

L-Tyrosine: As discussed above, the athlete’s ultimate stimulant is his or her workout. The more intensely you lift weights or perform cardio the faster your nerve cells are stimulated to fire neurotransmitters “bullets” like dopamine and norepinephrine. L-tyrosine serves as a substrate for the neurotransmitter-synthesizing metabolic pathways that reload your nerve cells with bullets. L-tyrosine supplementation may thereby delay electrochemical fatigue. No more feeling “zapped” after only a few sets.

Rhodiola rosea (Golden Root): The effects of L-tyrosine are strengthened even further with the addition of this mood-supporting adaptogenic herb. Often having a great workout comes down to being in a great state of mind.

Phosphate Salts: We’ve boosted the fatigue-fighting power of beta-alanine and histidine by adding phosphates. Phosphates support aerobic and anaerobic pathways of ATP production. Dr Richard Kreider and colleagues at Old Dominion University have shown that phosphates also buffer lactic acid production.

RIDE THE NEW HYBRID: UP-LIFT™ TRAINING FORMULA

Beverly’s R&D scientists quietly observed the “pre-training” category of supplements from the sidelines for several years. They watched and listened to bodybuilders, powerlifters and many other kinds of athletes as they used these products. With new UP-LIFT™, Beverly supersedes the old world of pre-training formulas by carving out the new frontier of the hybrid training formula. The wait is over. Now your new training ride can begin with UP-LIFT™, only from Beverly.
